NW Coalition Overview
Founding Goals
Research: Prove mentored research experience for undergraduate students. Community: Value and advocate for informal caregivers. Society: Devise key messages about nursing as a major contributor to older adult issues. Faculty Development: Stimulate faculty to integrate about older adults into courses.
In July 2002, the Hartford Center of Geriatric Nursing Excellence at Oregon Health & Science University hosted a gathering of seven schools and colleges of nursing in the Northwest to engage in mutual goal setting and to inform academic partners about the Hartford Center and about opportunities for faculty and students. Participants were enthusiastic and energized by meeting with colleagues committed to geronotological nursing and agreed to continue working together. They developed the mission statement and identified the areas of concern and priorities for future work outlined above. Since the first meeting, the NW Coalition has expanded to 16 institutions located in five states, Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington.
